THE BANK OF GOODWILL
/I went to the Bank of Goodwill today and made a deposit -
I thanked my wife for her support
I wished my kids a great day
I recognized a fellow associate for her great performance
I opened the door for a stranger
I made a customer’s vacation dreams come true
I went to the Bank of Goodwill today and made a withdrawal -
I forgot about my daughter’s school play
I cursed at the person who cut me off in traffic
I looked the other way when a homeless person approached me
I ignored two associates who asked me for a moment of my time
I didn’t return a customer’s call ( … I was too busy)
Then, I got a call from the bank, who said I was overdrawn. What was I to do?
They reviewed my account, transaction by transaction, and then it was all too clear. In the account instructions (the ones I threw away earlier), there it was. I had been charged, many times, for violating several of the bank’s founding member’s guidelines -
“It is only with the heart that one can see rightly, what is essential is invisible to the eye.” - Antoine de Saint-Exupery
“We make a living by what we get; we make a life by what we give.” - Winston Churchill
“The time is always right to do what is right.” - Martin Luther King, Jr.
“To keep a lamp burning, we have to keep putting oil in it.” - Mother Theresa
“Kindness is the language which the deaf can hear and the blind can see.” - Mark Twain
The next transaction was up to me.
Until Next Friday,
