WHAT COMES FIRST
What came first—the Chicken or the Egg? My seven-year-old daughter, Lauren, asked me this question one day.
Lauren asked me again, "What came first—the Chicken or the Egg?”
I thought momentarily about some profound, meaningful answer but was interrupted by Lauren, who said she knew the answer (this is very common for Lauren).
“Dad, you think you are so smart. You have several degrees but don’t know the answer to my question. And I know the answer!”
"Okay, Lauren, what came first - the Chicken or the Egg?"
"The Egg!” Lauren said with the most confidence.
“Okay, Lauren, “Why the Egg?" I responded, shrugging my shoulders and squinting my eyes in disbelief.
“Dad, don’t you know you have eggs for breakfast and chicken for dinner? Breakfast always comes before dinner.”
After laughing and congratulating Lauren on her wisdom, I later thought about what comes first in other parts of our lives.
· God or country?
· Family or work?
· A healthy meal or dessert?
· Chores or watching television?
· Exercise or relaxing?
· Work or play?
· Loving others or being selfish?
· Forgiving or forgetting?
· Charity or greed?
· Love or hate?
Today, reflect on what comes first in your life. What comes first is what you love most, and what you love most is what you will become.
Until Next Friday,
